I used my fellowship grant to conduct ethnographic research in my ancestral village in rural Greece, and study immigration beyond a monolithic narrative. I interviewed distant relatives and residents of the village in an effort to understand why they stayed while my ancestors chose to migrate. This project has given me a foundation both in terms of transferrable research methods as well as contextualizing individual experiences within a broader context.
